Trace McCreary is a real estate investor and developer based in Vero Beach, FL and St. Simons Island, GA and founder of Varden Capital Properties (VCP) in late 2011. VCP has completed more than $1.5 billion in real estate transactions. VCP develops, builds and buys apartment complexes in the Southeast. VCP also develops mixed-use projects that include other assets, including townhomes, retail and medical office.
VCP has acquired more than 120 apartment complexes with more than 23,000 units in the last 10 years, developed over 1,400 apartment units in the last 4 years and is currently developing approximately 6,500 additional apartment units. VCP also has a property management arm, Fortis Property Management, which is based in Atlanta and manages more than 12,000 units, both affiliated with VCP and its co-owner JEM Holdings, as well as for third parties.
Prior to real estate, Trace had a nearly 20-year career on Wall Street as an investment banker at several firms doing corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions, including Salomon Brothers/Citigroup, Credit Suisse and Barclays, and was briefly a corporate lawyer at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz.
Trace is a graduate of Carleton College in Northfield, MN (magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa) and Yale Law School.
